Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
for his wonderful works to humankind.
And let them offer thanksgiving sacrifices,
and tell of his deeds with songs of joy.
In the psalm trouble and turmoil are encountered.
Through these troubles God becomes "as our kinsman".
It is in this intimate relationship that we are redeemed.
The relationship is affirmed and advanced by giving thanks.
I give thanks both for the trouble and its wonderful consequence.
