Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult.

Hebrew has many names for God.

The two most frequent are 'elohiym and Yahweh.

There are many distinctions, but two stand out for me.

The 'elohiym, grammatically plural, are divine rulers: gods who control.

Yahweh is "that which exists", that who walks with us, that which creates.

When we are in trouble we often pray, as above, for the 'elohiym to take control.

We are encouraged to enter into relationship with Yahweh to avoid trouble or transform trouble as co-creators.
