Psalm 90

Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,
so that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us,
and for as many years as we have seen evil.

What is translated as "afflicted" is better understood as "humbled".

The last phrase is better translated as, "and for as many years as we have been the friend of the king."

The friend of the king -- a courtier, a royal dependent -- is constantly deferring.

The friend of the king exists to serve the king.

In serving others may I find cause to rejoice and be glad.
